ALEX TAYLOR né le 13 août 1957, est un journaliste et animateur de radio et de télévision britannique travaillant en France. Il est connu dans ce pays pour avoir présenté l'émission Continentales au début des années 1990, compilation de journaux télévisés européens diffusés en version originale sous-titrée.

ALEX TAYLOR anime par ailleurs des colloques et des conventions d'entreprises, plus de 600 à ce jour, en particulier grâce à sa connaissance de six langues européennes : anglais, français, allemand, espagnol, italien et néerlandais.

Il a passé sa jeunesse à St Austell, aux Cornouailles en Angleterre.

Il fait assez tôt son coming out. Dans les années 1980, il avait été l'un des membres fondateurs de la première version de la radio libre entre 1981 et 1986. En 1984, il passe pour la première fois à France Inter, dans l'émission Télescopages de Philippe Meyer, pour ensuite animer quelques émissions quotidiennes, et des tranches de l'Oreille en coin. Parallèlement, il gagne sa vie en tant que lecteur d'anglais aux universités de Paris X et XII ainsi qu'à l'École normale supérieure.

Au début des années 1990, ALEX TAYLOR présente et produit pour la télévision l'émission Continentales sur FR3. Il y introduit le vocabulaire de reportages de journaux télévisés européens et de séries télévisées anglophones, tous diffusés en version originale sous-titrée (notamment Chapeau melon et bottes de cuir, La Quatrième Dimension et Golden Girls). De là, il acquiert une certaine notoriété auprès du public.

Après Continentales, et une année passée à Arte avec Confetti, il devient directeur des programmes de Radio France internationale. Il fera également, pendant cinq ans, la revue de presse européenne tous les matins sur France Inter.

En 1999, il fonde sa propre société de production qui produit notamment la série Europuzzle, sur l'identité nationale en Europe, primée aux Ithèmes 2001 (meilleure émission culturelle sur le net et satellite en France). Il a animé, de 2000 à 2006, Vivre en Europe sur la Chaîne parlementaire.

Alex Taylor a présenté aussi l'élection de Mr Bear France, ce qu'il a réalisé entièrement en alexandrins, en français et en anglais.

Depuis octobre 2005, hors de la thématique européenne, il présente Élevons le débat.

De septembre 2010 à juin 2011, il coprésente, avec Émilie Munera, la tranche matinale de France Musique, avant d'animer sur cette même antenne de septembre 2011 à juin 2013 une émission de rencontres Voyage en moi Majeur le dimanche à 22 heures.

ALEX TAYLOR a également présenté l'émission I Talk sur Euronews, interviewant des responsables européens sur différents thèmes, ainsi que "Cousinades", l'émission du samedi soir de TV5 Monde, un florilège de productions francophones.

Depuis septembre 2013, il est de retour sur l'antenne de France Inter tous les matins avec une revue de presse internationale diffusée à 6h50.

ALEX TAYLOR defines himself as a “European journalist”. Born in Britain, he has lived for 30 years in France and Germany, producing and presenting TV and radio programmes. He currently hosts the main interview programme on Euronews “I Talk.” He has also hosted over 700 events, ranging from corporate and  institutional conventions and conferences, to gala events and prize giving ceremonies. ALEX TAYLOR is one of the most experienced events hosts in Europe, having presented more than 700 events over a period of 15 years. He has hosted all types of conventions, conferences and ceremonies, both corporate and institutional, together with a wide number of ceremonies, mainly in Europe but also throughout the world. He can host in English, French and German.

Born on 13th August 1957, after studying French and German at Oxford University, ALEX TAYLOR came to France in 1981. He became involved in the new “free radios”, presenting all kinds of programmes, while teaching at various French universities. He was also a producer on the Today programme on BBC Radio 4 for a year back in London.

He got his first job on television in 1990, hosting and producing a two and a half hour daily European news round-up on France 3 – “Continentales.” After this, ARTE (the French/German arts channel) asked him to produce and present their new daily European magazine show “Confetti.” He then got offered the post of  Programme Director (of the French department) at Radio France Internationale which broadcasts to 45 million listeners round the world.

His broadcasting career continued for 5 years doing the morning European press review on France’s main radio station (France Inter). In 2000 he set up his own production company, Continental Connection, making programmes on European themes such as national identity, broadcast on the BBC as well as in France and Spain. He also spent 7 years presenting a programme from the European Parliament. In 2010 ALEX TAYLOR was asked to present the daily morning show on the French classical music channel France Musique, a mixture of news and music, as well as being the first “in vision” presenter on Euronews with “I Talk” from the European Parliament since May 2011.

Over the last 15 years ALEX TAYLOR has also hosted events all round the world, half in France, half elsewhere, and often for big French companies or multinationals. He has vast experience of dealing with all kinds of personalities and situations, ranging from the Queen, President Clinton, Nelson Mandela and various Prime Ministers, to company managers but also people with less experience being on the stage. He regards himself as a true European and can give a continental flavour to any event he hosts. He has also written several books, including one of the wonderful untranslatability of languages.


 
ALEX TAYLOR  has produced and presented a wide range of programmes about Europe, mainly on French television and radio, but also for the BBC and VOX TV in Germany. He was also Programme Director of Radio France Internationale. Currently he hosts I-Talk on Euronews, interviewing Europe’s leading policy-makers in the European Parliament.

Otherwise ten years of European press reviews for France Inter, several years on ARTE, and ten years presenting programmes about the European parliament. For 3 years he was also in charge of the French section of RFI, France’s international radio. He has spent the last year doing something different – hosting the morning show every day on France Musique, France’s classical radio station.
