Ancien élève de l’Ecole normale supérieure de la rue d’Ulm, agrégé d’histoire, ALEXANDRE ADLER est un grand spécialiste des questions de géopolitique internationale contemporaines, mondialisation et gouvernance, géopolitique, énergie et matières premières et politique européenne. Auditeur à l’Institut des hautes études de défense nationale (IHEDN), il est également professeur pour l’enseignement militaire supérieur détaché au ministère de la Défense.

ALEXANDRE ADLER enseigne également dans des universités à l’étranger (Angleterre, États-Unis, Chine).

ALEXANDRE ADLER est chroniqueur à France Culture et sur Europe 1 et membre du comité éditorial du Figaro.

Précédemment dans sa carrière, ALEXANDRE ADLER a été directeur éditorial du Courrier International et a collaboré à Libération, Le Point, l’Express et Le Monde. Il est également intervenu à la radio et à la télévision (Arte, La Cinquième, TV5 Monde et Direct 8).

ALEXANDRE ADLER est l’auteur de nombreux ouvrages.
Il a reçu le prix de la fondation Mumm en 1999 pour l’ensemble de ses blocs-notes dans Courrier International et le prix du livre politique en 2002 pour "j’ai vu finir le monde ancien". Il a été nommé chevalier de l’Ordre de la Légion d’Honneur en 2002 et officier de l’Ordre du Mérite en 2006.

ALEXANDRE ADLER (born 23 September 1950 in Paris) is a French historian, journalist and expert of contemporary geopolitics, the former USSR, and the Middle East. He is a Chevalier de l’Ordre de la Légion d’Honneur (2002). A Maoist in his youth and then a member of the Communist Party (PCF), he shifted to the right at the end of the 1970s and has since become close to US neoconservatives, as did his wife Blandine Kriegel (daughter of the communist Resistant Maurice Kriegel-Valrimont). Adler is the counsellor of Roger Cukiermann, chairman of the Conseil Représentatif des Institutions juives de France (CRIF, Representative Council of Jewish Institutions of France).

Born in 1950 in Paris into a German-Jewish family, which survived World War II and the Holocaust, ALEXANDRE ADLER is a history graduate of the École normale supérieure (1969–1974). He directed the Chair for International Relations of France’s Ministry of Defense Interarmy College of Defense (1992–1998) where he remains a professor of higher military learning.

After collaborating with French daily Libération (1982–1992), ALEXANDRE ADLER went on to become the editorial director of the Courrier International (1992–2002), a weekly selection of significant articles from the international press. Adler served as an editorialist for the French daily of record Le Monde and collaborated with several French weeklies, including Le Point and L’Express. He currently sits on the editorial board of the conservative French daily Le Figaro.

ALEXANDRE ADLER is the author of J’ai vu finir le monde ancien (I Witnessed the End of the Ancient World, 2001), a geopolitical analysis of the consequences of the September 11 attacks in 2001, L’odyssée américaine (The American Odyssey, 2004), a historical reflection on American politics refuting the commonplace notion of the « American empire », and Rendez-vous avec l’Islam (Encounter with Islam, 2005), an analysis of Islam’s return as a historical actor on the world scene.
